Commemorative Trafalgar Cover

What we did

We were commissioned to design a commemorative cover and hand stamp for the 200 year anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar. The commemorative cover was then transported on the replica HMS Pickle from Falmouth to Portsmouth. The hand stamp was used to authenticate the carriage on the anniversary date.

An unusual long format was used to show the newly issued celebratory stamps to their full. We liaised directly with the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich with regards to imagery. Their image archive was extensively researched and clichéd imagery was purposely avoided. Images, such as Trafalgar’s actual detailed structural plans, were used to create an intriguingly, authentic background for the cover and envelope.
