We've been designing for Royal Mail for many years designing first day covers, stamp presentation packs, the stamp bulletin supplement (for collectors), rubber hand stamps and even the identity for a major stamp expo.
As the oldest Football club in the world, Notts County have had an influence in football well beyond their relatively humble current status. Ask Juventus if you don't believe us. We were invited to create this commemorative stamp sheet as part of the 150th anniversary of the clubs inception.
Being the clever type here at Frontmedia, we were naturally all educated at Cambridge* (as you’d expect). We even know how to pronounce “Gonville and Caius College” correctly, so when the Royal Mail asked us to design a commemorative stamp sheet to celebrate 800 years of the university’s existence, we had a bit of a headstart.
* This may not actually be true.
The Royal Mail asked us to design four new Hello Smilers® sheets to complement their existing range. As a result of customer feedback, the current landscape format of the Royal Mail Smiler® stamp sheets did not accommodate portrait images particularly well. To remedy this problem a unique circular format was needed.
Our new sheets were designed around the general themes of ‘Britain’, ‘Hello’ and ‘Love’. In addition, we created a more generic sheet that incorporated all three themes in one.
When we were offered the chance to design the Royal Mail’s limited edition Christmas 2011 Coin Cover it “turned our world upside down”.*
In order to really appreciate the design of the original bible, a trip was made to the British Library where we were privileged to be able to leaf through this piece of history first-hand.
*no more idioms we promise.
Following on from our time spent looking at the object itself, we knew a rich visual approach would be needed to convey the sumptuous beauty of both the bible itself and it's truly historic nature.
Key styling cues were taken from the bible design. Our finished piece proved to be something of a “labour of love”* and one of which we are extremely proud.
* OK, so we lied about the idioms.
