As the 2012 Olympics stopped off in Essex for the Mountain Biking discipline, Essex County Council wanted to take the opportunity to promote the historic (and now Olympian) town of Hadleigh. They came up with the idea of Team Hadleigh and after a successful pitch we took it from there.
The Team Hadleigh identity needed to convey Hadleigh's heritage but without getting all sepia tinted. ECC wanted a playful image to appeal to visitors of all ages. Bright colours, modern fonts and a stylised image of the historic castle were combined with circles (alluding to the olympic tie-up). An arrow motif represented the interactive tour intitiative that launched to coincide with the olympics.
We built a desktop website on the Umbraco CMS platform primarily to publicise the Team Hadleigh mobile web app, but handily we were also able to re-use all the content for the web app in the desktop site.
The cross-platform mobile web app was built using the jQuery mobile framework and connected to our Umbraco CMS. Visitors to the actual Hadleigh castle site are able to scan QR codes dotted around local points of interest to find out more information from the app. Video and audio files as well as historic images can be downloaded from the app.
Team Hadleigh were in residence at Hadleigh Park during the Olympic Moutain Biking event with these pop-up banners formed the backdrop to their stand celebrating the colourful past of the old town.
We produced a printed guide to accompany the tour path outlined by on our web app, as well as a promotional poster, and a set of QR Code boards to enable visitors to access pertinent pages within the app whilst they walked the park tour path.
